5/10 – Eastern State Penitentiary, the haunted prison, Philadelphia
Its history of over 140-years is filled with murder, suicide, disease, madness, and torture, making it easy to imagine the spirits of troubled souls left behind to roam its abandoned halls.
The prison, which closed 1971, is taken into account by several sources to be one of the foremost haunted places in America. it’s been featured on the Travel Channel’s Ghost Adventures and Most Haunted Live, Syfy’s Ghost Hunters and MTV’s Fear. Dozens of paranormal researchers visit per annum and report that it is a hub of otherworldly activity. There are stories of eerie experiences by visitors, staff, guards, and inmates that have corroborated one another since the 1940s.
Jack Osbourne, host of the Travel Channel’s Portals to Hell, after filming the series “One of the foremost haunted places within the world”, he noted, “Eastern State Penitentiary really freaked me out… The place is terrifying… Easily one among the foremost haunted places I’ve ever been.”
Anguished faces appeared on the cell membrane, many distorted forms swirled around the cellblock and one dominating form appeared to beckon the locksmith to him. The man’s experience was so terrifying, on-point years after he would shudder in fear when he talked about it.
